I can confidently say that the reward isn't just in the weight lost or the muscles gained-it's in the life-changing moments my clients experience. I started with Melanie because I needed someone to motivate me to work out and because I looked at myself and I was very unhappy. I had met her through a friend. I previously had a membership at NYSC for 2 years. I went twice.
When we started it was an eye-opener! She took measurements, asked me about my habits and we discussed goals. She wanted to get to know me and started with nutrition first. While I was sitting with her I thought I was never going to be able to do it. But each day she pushed a little, asked for any updates on my eating habits, and life changes, and provided alternatives. When I started I was at 195 pounds. I am now at 157 pounds and counting. Her workouts make me feel energized, fit and a whole lot more focused than I ever was. Going through the pain and suffering of an autoimmune disease is such a frustrating experience. Herniated disks and stenosis in my neck also made days challenging. My life was filled with painful days, weeks, and months. I knew I had to add a routine in my life to exercise more but the fear took over. The shutdown of COVID-19 didn’t help as it impacted my emotional stressors which then triggered my endometriosis symptoms. Melanie was already apart of my life as my husband was her client.
As a year flew by… Finally, I decided to schedule my intake appointment… and her first question was “What took you so long”? My husband’s medical problems were a wake-up call, pushing me to take my health more seriously. Seeing his struggles inspired me to jump-start a healthier lifestyle, with Mel leading the charge, focusing on better nutrition and regular exercise.

I was experiencing a lot of body pains in my mid-40s. At the same time I was observing family members succumb to diseases ( heart disease, autoimmune diseases, and obesity). And I decided I didn’t want to grow old that way. I want to grow old and still be able to walk and do normal stuff. One day I met Melanie through a friend. My friend had already been working out with her. She looked so good and felt so much better than she had before. So my husband and I decided to give it a try. He wanted to motivate me because I did not like going to the gym. My husband had prior health conditions before starting with Melanie. He also wanted to reverse some of the family medical history that was affecting him.
I feel much better since starting my fitness training with Melanie. I worked on my feet for many hours every day and had lower back and hip pains. I noticed I was stiffer and less flexible. Now I feel stronger and more flexible, and the hip pain is gone! I’m also able to use the exercises and stretches she taught me every day ON MY OWN. My husband’s heart is stronger, and he has less body pain.
My favorite thing about working out with Melanie is that it’s like working out with a friend who has a lot of knowledge of the body and a lot of skills that allow you to see results. She’s very graceful and nonjudgmental. And she has your best at heart. She wants you to succeed in your goal. She wants you to feel better and to learn how to take care of your body. And she works with you at the stage of life you are in. She doesn’t make you do exercises that will not benefit you. My husband and I have different needs but she incorporates both of our needs in each workout session. It’s been a great experience training with Melanie.
